Happy Feast of All Saints

Today is the Solemnity of All Saints. The Church celebrates all the saints: canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that is only known to God.
The early martyrs and holy people, the Saints of the Church, from the first persecution of Nero of the Christians would remember the day of death of the martyr or holy person and celebrate a commemorative Mass. The number of martyrs/ saints quickly became numerous. In order to not forget anyone, a day was set aside to remember all the saints.
The earliest records of the commemoration of All Saints date back to 373 A.D. in Antioch.
In our prayers, we remember the sick, the lonely and the victims of wars.
We pray for our families and friends.
Have a lovely day.
God bless you in St. Peter and St. Paul.
With every good wish.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of a friend and colleague in the Confraternity, Chevalier Alexander McPherson.
With a heavy heart I received the sad news this morning. Alexander was such an energetic person with a bright future.
Alexander did great things and we remember him that way. He was a dear and most valued member of the Confraternity.
When this week of the feast was supposed to be a joyous one, this had to happen.
On behalf of the Confraternity, we extend our condolences to the family.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Amen.

Grand Master’s Christmas Message

Christmas is a special time of the year, a time that brings Christians together to celebrate the birth of our Lord. For many, Christmas is for family get-together, parties and time for a holiday.
But what is the true meaning of Christmas?
Christmas should be a time of giving and caring for others, especially the poor, the sick and the lonely.

One of the main reasons why Christmas is a time for giving is to remind us of the Christmas story. Of course, it was Jesus who received the gifts of Frankincense, Gold, and Myrrh. Each of these gifts also has its own meaning and then there is the main gift, himself. Jesus is often considered by Christians to be a gift from God to the world.

The birth of Jesus brings joy to the world, and we should share that joy with others by giving something to those who are less fortunate than us, and by attending Mass on Christmas day. On behalf of Dame Mary and I, I wish you all a very Blessed and Holy Christmas and a Happy New Year 2024 with peace to all men kind. God Bless.

Archbishop Peter A Comensoli

With heartbreak and concern I am following the events unfolding in Israel and Gaza, and unequivocally condemn the barbaric assaults perpetrated out of ideological hatred. This evil is taking the lives of innocent children, women and men. It is destroying families and communities, and bringing renewed fear and enmity into the world. It has now led to a declaration of war, with the inevitable horrors that will flow from it.
I ask people of good will – and all our Catholic communities in Melbourne – to join me in prayer to the God of Peace. Pray for those who have tragically died. Pray for all who are caught up in the depths of this horror. Pray for conversion of hearts and pathways to reconciliation. May there be renewed efforts globally to build fraternity and foster a shared dignity. God of light, who created all peoples in your own image, be with us now and always.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Dear Confreres and Friends of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul,
Photo: His Excellency Grand Master Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli and Dame Mary Portelli.

Joy to the World, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;
Let's rejoice.

In our prayers today, we remember the Members of the Confraternity who passed away, those who are suffering from oppression, loneliness, hunger and the homeless.

Grand Master's Message.
His Excellency Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli

Dear Confrères and Friends of the Confraternity,
Fraternal greetings one and all.
Christmas is a time of giving and sharing.
One of the main reasons why Christmas is a time for giving is to remind us of the Christmas story. Of course, it was Jesus who received the gifts of Frankincense, Gold, and Myrrh. Each of these gifts also has its own meaning and then there is the main gift ‘himself’.
Giving to friends and family at Christmas may give us a taste of how it feels to do something nice for someone else. In some cases, people may consciously recognise this positive feeling and decide to give more widely, including a charity donation. It is also possible to be swayed by the learning that giving feels good without explicitly recognising it. Making a decision on whether or not to donate is likely to involve lots of factors we are not completely aware of, including our experiences of previous generosity.
As Christians, we need to celebrate the meaning of giving and sharing. Giving a present to a stranger, food to the needy at this time of the year will make us complete in our obligation.
Perhaps a donation to a Catholic mission, this is part of our aim, to follow the footsteps of St. Peter and Paul the first missionaries of Christ. We can be missionaries in our modern times by showing that we care for those less fortunate than us. God bless and have a Safe and Holy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING
Sunday 20 November, 2022

Christ the King Day is a Catholic celebration that takes place on the last Sunday of the liturgical year in the Catholic faith — on November 20 this year.

Originally a Roman Catholic feast, it is now observed by Christians of all denominations as a way to recognize and honor Jesus Christ as the ‘King of Kings.’ The church’s aim to remind the increasingly secular world of the importance of God and his teachings is one of the key reasons for the celebration.

HISTORY OF CHRIST THE KING DAY

Christ the King Day was initiated in 1925 by Pope Pius XI as a response to the spread of secularism in the modern world and to remind the world of Jesus Christ’s rule on mankind. Initially a Roman Catholic holiday celebrated on the last Sunday of October, many Christian denominations have since adopted the holiday.
The holiday’s origins can be traced back to Pope Pius XI’s view that Jesus Christ is the eternal ruler of the world. This truth is underlined and outlined throughout history in gospels, novels, and art, where Jesus Christ is constantly shown at the center of compositions and is referred to in venerable, regal terms. According to legend, Jesus Christ is worshiped by all angels and mortals, and everyone is subject to him and must recognize his reign as a result of Christ’s hypostatic union with all creatures on Earth and beyond.

In a modern world that has since come to know anti-religious ideologies such as fascism and communism, the celebrations act as a way to ground the human race back to Earth in recognition of God and the benevolence of Christ. In general, the roles of a good King include the ability to bring order into lives, unify the people, convey the truth, protect the people from harm, and do what is best for them. For those in the Christian and Catholic faiths, Jesus Christ exemplifies all the traits of a good King as he fulfills all the traits that compel his followers to live proper lives.

Thus, the celebrations remind Catholics and Christians of Jesus Christ’s eternal authority over the world, as it is the only kind of authority that is not temporal and fleeting. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops simplifies the solemn day as a reminder that while governments come and go, Christ reigns as King forever.

With every good wish.

DEDICATION OF THE BASILICAS OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL
18 November

Today we are celebrating the feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican City and of St. Paul Outside the Walls.

Also today, I like you to remember in your prayers our Members who passed away and those who are unwell.

The Apostles Peter and Paul are the Patron Saints of the City of Rome.
A cathedral is theology in stone, the medievals said, a truism which extends to all churches, not just cathedrals, and to their sacred web of translucent glass, glowing marble, gold-encrusted wood, bronze canopies, and every other noble surface on which the eye falls. A Church mutely confesses its belief through form and materials.
Today’s feast commemorates the dedication of two of the most sumptuous churches in the entire world: the Basilica of St. Peter, the oversized jewel in the small crown of Vatican City, and the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, a few miles distant, beyond Rome’s ancient walls. The foundations of these two Basilicas are each sunk deep into the blood-drenched ground of first-century Christianity, though today’s impressive structures stand proxy for their long-razed originals. If strong churches reflect a strong God, these Basilicas are all muscle.
The present Basilica of St. Peter was dedicated, or consecrated, in 1626. It was under construction for more than one hundred years, was built directly over the tomb of the Apostle Peter, and considerably enlarged the footprint of the original Constantinian Basilica. That prior fourth-century Basilica was so decrepit by the early 1500s that priests refused to say Mass at certain altars for fear that the creaky building’s sagging roofs and leaning walls would collapse at any moment. The ancient Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls was consumed by a mammoth fire in 1823. The rebuilt Basilica was dedicated on December 10, 1854, just two days after Pope Pius IX had formally promulgated the dogma of Mary’s Immaculate Conception. The Basilica’s vast classical elegance is breathtaking—its marbled central nave stretches out longer than an American football field.
The two Basilicas were, for centuries, linked by a miles-long, roofed colonnade that snaked through the streets of Rome, sheltering from the sun and rain the river of pilgrims flowing from one Basilica to the next as they procured their indulgences. Rome’s two great proto-martyrs were like twins tethered by a theological umbilical cord in the womb of Mother Church. The pope’s universal ministry was explicitly predicated upon these two martyrs. Rome’s apostolic swagger meant the Bishop of Rome’s headship was not merely symbolic but actively intervened in practical matters of church governance throughout Christendom. The pope, the indispensable Christian, was often depicted in early Christian art as a second Moses, a law-giver, who received from Christ the tablets of the New Testament for the new people of God.
At intervals of five years, every diocesan bishop in the Catholic Church is obligated to make a visit “ad limina apostolorum”—“to the threshold (of the tombs) of the apostles.” This means they pray at the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul in Rome and personally report to Saint Peter’s successor. These visits are a prime example of the primacy of the pope, which is exercised daily in a thousand different ways, a core duty far more significant than the pope’s infallibility, which is exercised rarely. There is no office of Saint Paul in the Church. When Paul died, his office died. Everyone who evangelizes and preaches acts as another Saint Paul. But the barque of Peter is still afloat in rough seas, pinned to the stout tombs which, like anchors, hold her fast from their submerged posts under today’s Basilicas. A church is not just a building, any more than a home is just a house. A church, like a home, is a repository of memories, a sacred venue, and a corner of rest. On today’s feast, we recall that certain churches can also be graveyards. Today’s Basilicas are sacred burial grounds, indoor cities of the dead, whose citizens will rise from beneath their smooth marble floors at the end of time, like a thousand suns dawning as one over the morning horizon.
Holy martyrs Peter and Paul, your tombs are the sacred destinations of many pilgrimages to the eternal city. May all visits to the Basilicas dedicated to your honor deepen one’s love and commitment to Mother Church.

God bless you in Sts. Peter and Paul.

Have a lovely day.

MARY'S ASSUMPTION TO HEAVEN

By Chevalier Rev. Fr. Manuel Martins, CM – Chaplain of the Confraternity in Portugal
Parish Priest of Paranhos - Porto
Sunday 14 August, 2022

The collective prayer from the vigil of the Mass of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary sums up well the objectives and meanings of the mystery we celebrate. Here she is: "Lord our God, who, looking at the humility of the Virgin St Mary, you will honor her to the dignity of mother of the Incarnate Word and, on this day, to crown us of glory, grant us, by her intercession, that, saved by the mystery of redemption, we deserve to be glorified by you."
God is the author of all activity: he looked at the Humility of Mary, raised her to the dignity of Mother of the Incarnate Word and crowned her with glory; that through his intercession, let us be worthy of being glorified once we have been saved by the mystery of redemption.
The Assumption of Our Lady to Heaven is, for us who still live in this valley of tears, the certainty that Heaven exists and is our destiny. The arrival of our Mother in Heaven is the early certainty of the final victory of all the righteous friends of God, who love the Gospel and live as true Christians. The Assumption of Mary is the victory of life over death, of hope over pessimism, of suffering over pleasure, of humility over pride, of love over selfishness, of purity over lust, of meekness over hatred, of goodness over envy, of solicitude over laziness... of good over evil.
The readings of the Mass of the day transport us to the mountains of Judea where Mary has heartedly visited her cousin Elizabeth and lead us through biblical history to the future already visited by St John in the book of revelation.
The new humanity born on Calvary, the Church is pictured in the person of Mary of Nazareth, the Virgin Mother of God who generates in pain. So thinking of the Church too we see Mary, the woman dressed in the sun with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head who fights fiercely with the dragon, the symbol of evil. Even today we suffer the adversities and blows suffered by evil in the world, but we know that victory will be ours because of the children of God.
Portugal is on this day the stage of numerous festivals in praise of the Mother of God: it beats the world record for the number of localities and Christian communities that honor and celebrate it. With many names and invocations the reality is the same: feet on earth and eyes in heaven – like Mary. It is an opportunity not to be numb or discouraged by what is not well when we look only at the ground. We look up, we look at all that, of beautiful and great, that God has already accomplished in us, with His goodness and that after all already gives us so much joy and contentment. This look will cast our hearts forward, to the heights. If we have a fixed heart in the heights, if the arrow of our desire points to the target, which is God, our life will gain in depth, greatness, light and beauty.
The symbolism and varied iconography linked to this day, can not leave us forgotten the Miraculous Medal and the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin to the novice Catherine Labouré, on rue du Bac in Paris. To look at the Lady of the Medal on the back and in reverse is to discover a living Gospel and a very strong message for each of us who bring her with devotion and to the whole world indistinctly of race, creed, culture or latitude. The invitation to prayer and missionary action is strong. So let us know how we correspond to those who loved and loved us first.

Confraternity of the Knights of  St. Peter & St. Paul's feast report.
We cannot live our Christian life alone.
St Peter was one arm of the Body of Christ and St Paul the other, both of which the Lord used to build a foundation which stands rock solid to this very day.
They were like the Sun and the Moon, providing the light for the Church day by day, for almost two millennia.
Enough can not be said concerning the two greatest Apostles that the Church and the world has ever known.

And yet, they both had been exceedingly humbled by circumstances in their lives and thereby also became two great examples of repentance.

Reach Out to 22

During the Lenten Season, we organized a Lenten Appeal to raise funds to assist the poor people in our community. We managed to raise MWK102,000 (about US$115) cash, and the following materials: blankets, clothes, soap, and milli meal. This is a lean period in our country and many households do not have enough food, we bought maize. On Easter Monday, with these items we reached out to 22 people, mainly elderly women, most of whom are widows.

We are grateful to our Patron Saints Peter and Paul. It is with their intercessions that we managed to solicit assistance for the needy of our community. We also promise prayers for those who assisted us with their money and materials.

SAD DAY FOR THE CONFRATERNITY OF THE KNIGHTS OF ST. PETER & ST. PAUL

In the past 12 hours, we received the sad new of the passing of the Deputy Grand Master Chevalier Professor Jose M Ferreira Coelho from Portugal and Dame Marlene Muscat from Malta.
Deputy Grand Master Chevalier Jose M Ferreira Coelho had a big heart, he was more than a gentleman, he was loved by everyone.
Mary and I had the honour to visit him in Portugal twice and we met in Malta during the feast of St. Peter and Paul in Nadur in 2017.
Today we lost a colleague and a friend.
Our deepest condolences to his wife and family.
Rest in peace my friend.

DAME MARLENE MUSCAT

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Dame Marlene Muscat of the Grand Chapter of Malta.

God has picked another flower from His garden today.

The Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul is in mourning for the loss of Dame Marlene Muscat.

She was a very dedicated lady to her family and her work in the Local Council of Nadur, in the Secretariat of the Gozo Ministry.
She worked so hard in volunteering, she took part in various associations both in Sannat, her native village, in Nadur where she lived with her family and in Canada among the Maltese community where she lived for several years.

She will be deeply missed by her brothers and sisters in the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul.

May she rest in peace.

Condolences to all her family.

I would like to appeal to all our priests to offer Mass to Dame Marlene Muscat.

Steven gets Baptised after 21 Years of waiting

By Chevalier Rev. Joseph Sikwese

Saturday, 9th October 2021, remains an important historical day for Steven Mwakyusa.  It was the day he  who is 88 years old was baptised, after waiting for 21 years. He was baptised together with his daughter Esnart.
Since the year 2000, Steven has been longing to be baptized in the Catholic Church, but he could not be baptised because he was unable to finish the catechumenate programme. He dedicated his time to taking care of his disabled daughter who had been abused by unknown men.  There was nobody to take care of his daughter as his wife, Tomaida, died many years ago.  His other 3 children are married and relocated to other villages.

Every time he went away, unknown men came to abuse the powerless Esnart, who ended up having 3 children from unknown men. When we listened to the story of Steven and Esnart, the parish made arrangements with catechist to be visiting them at their home once a week for three months to prepare them for Baptism and Confirmation.
They were baptised and confirmed during the beautiful Eucharistic celebration which took place at their home in St. Michael’s Small Christian Community in St Martin de Porres Parish. The local chapter of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul donated a wheelchair to Esnart and some food items. Because Steven has become old and is getting frail, the family depend on people of goodwill for food. Their house is also in very bad shape.

Confreres and visitors on this website, we need to support the mission of Chevalier Fr. Joseph Sikwese in Malawi. Many people visit the website of the Confraternity and what they look for, the decorations page.       People are only interested in titles, decorations, medals and certificates

Greetings from Malawi.

I write to share with you my joy about the first Cofirmands in my parish. My Parish, St Martin de Porres, was established on 2 April 2021 from St Steven’s Parish. I was asked to be a caretaker Parish Priest. I work in the parish during weekends, and yesterday was pleased to confirm 45 Christians. I was delegated by the Bishop. It was a beautiful celebration.

Wishing you God's blessings.

Chapter of Malawi
By Chevalier Rev. Fr. Joseph Mkinga
Deputy Prior
Diocese of Karonga.
Curate at St Joseph the Worker Cathedral.

St Joseph the Worker Cathedral Parish is a cathedral of the Catholic diocese of Karonga found in the Northern part of Malawi which is a landlocked country in South Eastern Africa with a size of about 118,000 square kilometers. Malawi is bordered by Tanzania to the North East, Zambia to the North West and Mozambique to the South East and South West. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Though we tirelessly preach about self-reliance, we must admit that Malawians are far behind economically.

The Diocese of Karonga was created from the Diocese of Mzuzu on 21 st July, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. On the latter date the first Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Martin Mtumbuka was also consecrated. Before its creation, the whole area that is now covered by this new Diocese was the Northern Deanery of Mzuzu Diocese.

St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Parish was created on 5 th November 2016 at a solemn Mass which was presided over by Fernando Cardinal Filoni, the Prefect of Propaganda Fide, when the Cathedral was also consecrated. Before its creation, what is now St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Parish was part of St. Mary’s Parish, Karonga.
Our recent statistics show that St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral Parish has 4,460 Catholic Christians. And we have 369 Catechumens. Every year the number of Catholics continues to grow.

At the moment the Parish has a total of 23 Churches which are clustered into 8 Out-Stations and 3 Zones. We have 52 Small Christian Communities. There are two Priests, a nun, three trained Catechists and many Lay Christian Leaders ministering in the Parish at the local level.

1. THE PASTORAL SITUATION IN ST JOSEPH THE WORKER CATHEDRAL PARISH
The Catholic presence in the bigger part of this parish is not significant. There is a stronger presence of other Christian denominations like, Church of Central African Presbyterian(CCAP), Lutheran and other Churches of Evangelical origins.

There are also local African Independent Churches like the Blackmans Church and Ngemera. The presence of the Catholic Church is thus under serious challenge.
The area under the jurisdiction of St Joseph the Worker Cathedral parish is one of the most underdeveloped places in Malawi as it can be seen by poor road network. The people in the area live on a less than a dollar a day. They earn their living through subsistence farming. Because of poor farming methods they do not produce enough food. During the months of January, February and March there is acute food shortages. The Diocese is engaged in uplifting the socio-economic life of the people through the Caritas Commission. The Caritas Commission is involved in different interventions in the area of livelihood, justice and peace, Health and education. As such, we cannot expect such Christians to support their priests and contribute to the development of the parish. However, the Christians under this parish do their best to support the parish with the little they have.

The area under St Joseph the worker Cathedral Parish has very insignificant Catholic presence. Even amongst the Catholics in the area there are signs of weak faith: numerous cases of lapsed catholic Christians or families, polygamy, divorce, killings of people with albinism, killings of people suspected of witchcraft and violence.
Amongst those Catholics that come to Church, few receive sacraments of the Eucharist, Anointing, Confession and marry in the Church. Due to lack of proper catechesis, a good number of Christians do not appreciate the importance of sacraments in their Christian life. The parish is territorially very wide with a poor road network.
God bless,

Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Sunday 15 August

The Assumption of Mary (name in full Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) is, according to the beliefs of the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Oriental Orthodoxy, Church of the East, and some Lutheran and Anglo-Catholic Churches, among others, the bodily taking up of Mary, the mother of Jesus, into Heaven at the end of her earthly life. The analogous feast in the Eastern Churches is known as the Dormition of the Theotokos. In Lutheranism and Anglicanism, the feast is celebrated in honour of St. Mary, Mother of our Lord. In the churches that observe it, the Assumption is a major feast day, commonly celebrated on 15 August.

In many countries, the feast is also marked as a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church. The Assumption of the Virgin Mary in art has been a popular subject, especially since the 12th century. The Catholic Church teaches as dogma that the Virgin Mary "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory".

Christmas Message from His Eminence Cardinal Mario Grech

Secretary General of the synod of bishops

Dear friend Grand Master Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli

Thanks for your Christmas greeting which I reciprocate to you, your family and the members of your Confraternity. I invite you to prepare a place for Jesus at your home because He wants to dwell with you to make you experience the gifts of love, peace and hope. As the Holy Father reminded us this morning when we met for the traditional Christmas meeting with him, "the birth of Jesus of Nazareth is the mystery of a birth which reminds us that men, though they must die, are not born in order to die, but in order to begin”.

I really appreciate all do for the poor and I strongly encourage you to continue to help them. This morning Pope Francis also underlined that "they alone truly know God who welcome the poor, who come from below in their misery, yet as such are sent from on high. We cannot see God’s face, but we can experience it in his turning towards us whenever we show respect for our neighbour, for others who cry out to us in their need.[5] For the poor, who are the centre of the Gospel".

God bless you
Cardinal Mario Grech

Message from the Grand Master Chevalier Peter Paul Portelli

Melbourne. Australia.

Dear Confreres and Friends of the Confraternity

Christmas brings a sense of joy to us Christians, a new beginning, the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. No other celebration brings so much joy and demands so many preparations than Christmas.

There is that feeling wherever you go, that this is a special time of the year.
Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. The three wise men travelled a long way to give presents to baby Jesus.

We as Christians and as knights and dames, this is the time of the year that we should give to those who are less fortunate, especially the poor.
In the meeting of November, the Supreme Council, decided to donate money to buy a bed in a local hospital and in Germany, Dame Gabriele presented a donation to the Tafel Bad Dürkheim, € 400 well done. May next year will be a better one, where we can raise money to help those in need.

I take this occasion to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year. May the Lord Jesus bestow his blessings on us to continue our mission to serve Him and His people.

Warm regards to all.

Message from Chevalier the Rev. Fr. Francis Xavier Buhagiar PE

Chaplain of the Confraternity in Melbourne.

Reflection “At Christmas we feel that God is very close to us and very loving towards us .At the same time we feel a closeness to one another. All this happens because God’s Son, the Child of Bethlehem, becomes one of us.
The Child Jesus, has brought God near to us , and brought us near one another. We hear these wonderful words at the Mid-Night Mass “ Jesus you are the Word made Flesh and Splendor of the Father “

Dear Friends, we have been through a lot of Challenges this year 2020 because of the Pandemic Covid-19. A very tiny droplet which cannot be seen with our naked eye, but it has created mountains of human, social and economic  disasters. We came to the realization how fragile our situations can be. Everything is changing and we have come to realize that we need to have something or someone we can anchor our hope into.
As I wrote at the beginning of my reflection, God has volunteered to be our anchor through the Child of Bethlehem in our daily lives, if only we are willing to let  him in. Let us fix our Hope into Christ and cherish the serenity and peace that he gives to those men, women, young people and children of good will, who welcome him in their hearts.

We all look forward to being able to catch up more often during the coming New Year 2021.

Pope Francis recalls the 150thanniversary of the declaration of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church . To mark this very special occasion  he has proclaimed a YEAR OF STAINT JOSEPH “ from 8th December 2020 to 8th December 2021. I would like to print this prayer of Saint Joseph . As you pray daily this prayer , please remember all the Doctors, Nurses and Care Givers who answered the call to serve the sick and the dying during this pandemic.

YEAR OF SAINT JOSEPH
(8.12.2020 to 8.12.2021)
Hail ,Guardian of the Redeemer,
Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only son;
In you Mary placed her trust;
With you, Christ became man.

Blessed Joseph, to us too,
show yourself a Father
and guide us in the path of life.
Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage ,
And defend us from every evil. Amen.

I wish you all, dear friends a Peace-Filled Christmas  and a Blessed New Year 2021 .

Message from Chevalier the Rev. Fr. Antonio Manuel Martins

Chaplain of the Confraternity in Portugal

Dear Confreres and Friends of the Confraternity A few days before Christmas, we are invited to reflect, to worship silence and joy. This is an atypical year in which the world is struggling with this pandemic virus.
Everyone will remember this year. Unfortunately, the Pandemic is not the only scourge we have had to face. Alongside the loss of many confreres, family, and friends, we have seen many of our families and the people with whom we work now looking for ways to tackle poverty. We should highlight the beautiful gestures of solidarity and mutual help.

God's best gift for each one of us and for all humanity is his Son: "a Child was born to us, a son was given to us" (Is 9,6). Let him be born and reign in our hearts Let us proclaim and announce that He is our Hope and our Salvation.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2021

The Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul wishes to congratulate Mons. Anton Teuma on his election of Bishop of Gozo.
Fr Anton Teuma named new Bishop of Gozo, speaks of 'continuity'
Wednesday, 17 June 2020,

Fr Anton Teuma has been named as the new Bishop of Gozo.
The official announcement was made at the Ta' Pinu Sanctuary just before noon.
In an official statement soon afterwards, the Maltese archdiocese congratulated Tuema on his appointment and thanked his predecessor Mario Grech for his services as Gozo Bishop for 14 years.

Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Adrian Delia also congratulated the new bishop, thanking his predecessor.
In a brief address after this appointment, Teuma also thanked Mgr Grech for his work, saying that he hoped to continue building on his work.
He also mentioned Bishop Nikol Cauchi as having assisted him in his growth, describing him as a second father.

Visibly emotional, the bishop spoke of the need to work "collectively". He said he does not like the word "I", but was more inclined to use "we" because be believed in the strength of the community.
Teuma, 56, served in the Xaghra parish.
During his preparation to become a priest, he worked as a welder and electrician in Australia, obtaining a licence in both trades.
He was ordained a priest in 1988 by former bishop of Gozo Nikol Cauchi.
He served on the parish of St Ignatius in Rome as a parish vicar, and was brought back to Gozo in 1997 to be appointed rector of the seminary, a post he occupied for 10 years.

Between 1998 and 2016, he was also spiritual assistance of the diocese's eucharistic communities.
He spent a year in the Holy Land where he obtained a diploma in biblical studies in Jerusalem.
He obtained a degree in science in 2016 and a post-graduate diploma in family psychotherapy in 2018.
Incumbent Mario Grech, who has held the post since 2005, will be stepping aside for a new pastoral leader of the Gozitan diocese.
On 2 October, Bishop Grech was named by Pope Franics as Pro-Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops. He stayed on as Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Gozo since then.

Mgr Grech was the eighth bishop of Gozo. He had replaced Bishop Nikol Cauchi, who held the post for 33 years.
The Synod of Bishops was established by St Paul VI on 15 September 1965 on request of the Bishops who participated in the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council to keep alive amongst them the spirit of the path undertaken during the Council.

PENTECOST SUNDAY

Chevalier António Manuel Martins - Chaplain

Grand Chapter of Portugal

The God's Spirit stay with us. SOLEMNITY OF PENTECOST Gift of God to all believers, the Spirit gives life, renews, transforms, builds community and gives birth to the New Man.

The Gospel presents us with the Christian community, gathered around the risen Jesus. For John, this community becomes a living community, recreated, new, from the gift of the Spirit. It is the Spirit that allows believers to overcome fear and limitations and to bear witness in the world to this love that Jesus lived to the end.

With Luke we know that the Spirit is the new law that guides the walk of believers. It is He who creates the new community of the People of God, who makes men capable of overcoming their differences and communicating, who unites in the same community of love, people of all races and cultures.

And with Paul we know that the Spirit is the source from which the life of the Christian community flows. It is He who bestows the gifts that enrich the community and that fosters the unity of all members; therefore, these gifts cannot be used for personal benefit, but must be put at the service of all.

Happy feast of Pentecost.

EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPLAIN OF PORTUGAL
Chevalier P. Manuel Martins, CM

Happy Easter!
Dear Confreres and friends of the Confraternity St Peter & St Paul,

May God’s grace fill your heart and your home with blessings this Easter!

He is risen! He is risen indeed!

Easter is approaching, and for some days we have been wondering: how will we celebrate
it? In the light of faith we can make this moment of distress and sorrow an opportunity for
deepening and growth. We should be careful not to give in to a passive faith, which only
watches the celebrations, but find a way to participate, grateful for the creative effort of so
many ministers of the Church who seek to become accessible to us.

However, we must have the courage to take a further step! We can express the vitality of
our faith in other ways as well. Beyond all that has been said, this occasion offers us an
opportunity to rediscover ourselves as a Domestic Church, “because where there are two or
three gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them” (Mt 18:20). We are invited as a
family to make our prayers by dedicating a special time to reading and meditating on the
biblical texts related to these days, trying to read them in our own Bible, with dignity and
attention (Verbum Domini 85).

As a family gathered in prayer in the Easter light, we can
strengthen our faith and discover ourselves as a space for the mystical presence of the risen
Lord (Amoris Laetitia 317). We can still remember the prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours,
which can accompany us in the celebration of Easter or be discovered for those who do not
know it.

The vitality of a prayer community is not measured by the number of people who gather.
Even if two or three do so as a Domestic Church in the name of Christ, we count on the
presence of Jesus among us, because he is Emmanuel, “God with us” (Mt 1:23), the risen
Christ who is with us all days, even to the end of the world (Mt 28,20).

We can welcome this opportunity to shine a light on the painful reality in our present world
with the Word of God and discern in it the reflections of the passion, death, and
resurrection of Jesus in those who offer their life to the world today: for the cross of
disease, selfless and anonymous service, responsibility for others, prayer, and care for the
most fragile.
God bless you.
Yours
P. Manuel Martins, CM - Portugal

EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPLAIN OF THE CONFRATERNITY OF THE KNIGHTS OF ST. PETER & ST. PAUL

Melbourne. Australia.

Dear Members and Friends of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & Paul

“ This is the Day the Lord had made, Let us rejoice and be glad” ( Psalm 117)
Easter gives us HOPE. We can face anything ,endure anything, as long as we know or believe it will not last for ever, and that something better will happen. Hope is as necessary for our spirit as bread is for our body. It is an amazing grace ,what the human spirit can endure and overcome, provided it is nourished by the bread of hope. Easter 2020 will be very different for us Christians. Holy Week and Celebrations and Easter are digital. We cannot physically be present, only in spirit.

Easter can provide the Global Community with an enormous injection of HOPE for the human spirit as together we do our very best to overcome the darkness oc coronavirus-19. And how much it is needed.
There are lots of tragedies at present and many good things are destroyed ; freedom of movement loss of jobs,
financial hardships, medical challenges. Good people everywhere are cut down. And of course , we are reminded during Passion Week that Jesus the Lord was cut down too. But he rose again. We are reminded on Easter Sunday, that God’s love is stronger than death. At Easter we still feel the pain of the World. The Risen

Lord lights up our HOPE. Together ,with the amazing grace of the Risen Lord, we will overcome the present pandemic , because LOVE is stronger than fear and HOPE is stronger than despair.
Wish you and all your families and friends a Blessed and Happy Easter 2020.

Our mission is to helping the poor in Peru

Medical doctor by day, priest by night: a Gozitan missionary in the Amazon

25 February, 2020.
Nadur, Gozo,

The Grand Master on behalf of the Confraternity  and the Chapter of Malta gave a donation to Fr. Portelli to help his mission in Peru.

Photo from left: Chevalier Joe Louis Meilak - Chancellor, Dr. Fr. Raymond Portelli and Chevalier Carmel Saliba - Secretary.

By John Paul Cordina.

What’s it like to be a doctor and a priest in one of the most remote cities on earth?
Fr Raymond Portelli, a Gozitan priest who has called Peru his home for the past 26 years, recounted his experiences on 103 Malta’s Heart, on the programme Newsbook Hour presented by Fr Joe Borg.
Fr Portelli is based in Iquitos, a city of around 400,000 people located in the Amazon basin. The city is the world’s largest city that cannot be reached by road: it is only accessible by river or air.
Fr. Portelli is the parish priest of the St Martín de Porres parish, with a population of 18,000 people. Around a fifth of his parishioners are comfortably middle-class, but the vast majority are poor, with around a tenth living in extreme poverty. Households do have running water and electricity, but many live in simple wooden shacks on dirt roads.
Due to the city’s isolation, job creation efforts are limited and unemployment is a significant problem. Many people try to eke out a living through fishing, agriculture or by selling trinkets on the streets of the city.
Caring for the body and soul
As the only priest in the parish – though a number of laypeople do help out – Fr Portelli seeks to look after his community’s pastoral needs. But he also identified another need: for healthcare.
“I have always been interested in medicine, even before I joined the seminary,” he explains. Consequently, he obtained a dispensation from Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi to study medicine at Iquitos’ university part-time, and graduated as a medical doctor after nine years.
He often sees patients at the parish, but notes that his parishioners clearly distinguish between his two roles.
“They call me doctor by day, and father by night,” he notes.
Helping out in the jungle
Though he is based in the city, Fr Portelli regularly ventures outside the parish to provide religious and medical services to isolated communities along the Momón River, a small tributary of the Amazon. Travelling by speedboat to reach a series of tiny villages, with the most distant one 12 hours away, the priest encounters a completely different reality.
These communities are virtually inaccessible most of the year, as a drop in water levels reduces the river to a muddy path, and are thus mostly self-reliant. People live in small huts with no doors – theft not being a concern in such an isolated place – in communities with no shops or facilities.
Stocking up on medicines for the journey, Fr Portelli takes care of common ailments such as diabetes and malaria. If more serious health issues are identified, he offers to take patients to the city, but they often refuse, as they are unwilling to leave their families behind.
Once all patients are treated, Fr Portelli holds a catechism session and celebrates mass, often illuminated by candlelight or kerosene lamps – electricity is unheard of so deep in the jungle. Though most are baptised Catholics, even non-Catholics attend mass out of respect.
Living conditions may be harsh, but Fr Portelli also notes that there is a strong sense of community in these villages, with people helping each other out. Everyone knows everyone else, and everyone helps out whenever a new house is built.
But every so often, village inhabitants try their luck in the city, effectively severing their ties with the community they grew up in. And as a result, they often feel lost among the city’s 400,000 inhabitants, struggling to fit in.

In the recent years the Supreme Council of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul has been very careful in accepting requests from people who want to join our organization.

Most of the request were not accepted for the reason that people are only interested in medal collections, titles and certificates.

We need our members to be dedicated to their role to help the needy and to bring respect to the Confraternity.

FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING LORD AND MASTER

Dear Confreres and friends of the Confraternity,

This Sunday 24 November, 2019, we are celebrating the feast of Christ the King.

It is proper as knights and dames of the Confraternity to pay homage to our Lord and Master Jesus Christ the King.

Romans 10:9 we read:
“if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus thou shalt be saved”.

This is paying true homage as worship by faith to our wonderful Lord Jesus.
We own Him as our “Lord” with full rights to be the One and only authority in our lives, and He grants us eternal life, blessing.

Gospel – Luke 23:35-43

The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.”
Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine
they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”
Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.”
Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.”
The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation?
And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.”
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

God bless you all.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely in Christ Jesus the Lord.

Pope Francis appoints Mgr Bishop Mario Grech to top church role

Gozo Bishop Mario Grech has been appointed by Pope Francis to serve as Secretary General of the synod of bishops, one of the highest pastoral organs of the Catholic church.

The Grand Master, the Supreme Council and the Members of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul extend the best wishes to His Excellency Monsignor Bishop Mario Grech on his appointment as Secretary General of the synod of bishops and we thank him for his support to the Confraternity.
Bishop Grech’s appointment to the prestigious role was announced yesterday by the Vatican.

He will continue to serve as apostolic administrator of the Gozo diocese until a new bishop is appointed.
Grech will head the synod of bishops, which is one of the highest pastoral organs of the Catholic church. He will formally take over from current secretary general Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri when his term ends in August 2020.

Malta’s ambassador to the Vatican, Frank Zammit, said Grech’s appointment signals the trust Pope Francis has in the Gozo Bishop.
“The role Mgr Mario Grech has been given represents the immense trust the Pope has in him. This role puts Grech at the heart of the collegial decisions bishops take and is one of the highest roles ever occupied by a Maltese in the Vatican,” Zammit said.
Vatican observers believe this appointment would put Grech on the road to become cardinal.

God bless His Excellency Monsignor Bishop Mario Grech and we ask him to keep the Confraternity in his prayers.
With every good wish.

EXCLUSIVE: Farmers will receive one-off payments of up to $3500 as part of an immediate government cash injection as part of a $13 million relief package to drought-ravaged Gippsland.

Yesterday was a great day for the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul, members of the Supreme Council travelled 240 km to the town of Giffard in South Gippsland to donated money to 5 farmers who are doing it tough to survive.

These farmers are finding it hard to keep their farm. Their farms haven't received good rain for 2 years.

People who cares
Today Sunday,18 March, 2018 the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul organised a Fund Raising Barbeque Lunch in Avondale Height, Melbourne..
Members and non members started preparing from some days ago and yesterday they set up the hall. Today they started cooking from the early hours and by noon everything was ready to be served.

Everyone had a very good time.
One thing that hit me most was when Carmela Barbaro and two other lovely ladies too out Marjory Cassar who walks with the aid of a frame on the dance floor.

With joy and gratitude, Pope Francis received the good wishes and the many signs of appreciation given to him for Christmas and New Year, as well as for his birthday. His Holiness also thanks You for expressing your attachment and especially for prayer.

To meet God, one has to go where HE is: one has to bow down, humble oneself, make oneself small. The child in the stable calls us to let go the illusions of the transitory, to go to the essential. In this way we will be able to rediscover the peace, the joy and the great meaning of life in the simplicity of the child of God. (cf Pope Francis Homily in Christmas Mass 2016). With this desire, the Holy Father asks for the protection and blessings of the merciful God for You and all who are close to you and for a good year 2018.

Death of His Excellency Monsignor Bishop Emanuel Barbara OFM Cap.

Dear Confreres and friends of the Confraternity,

It is with great sadness to inform you that His Excellency Monsignor Bishop Emanuel Barbara OFM Cap has passed away to eternal life in his sleep.

He was a very good shepherd of God and a friend of the Confraternity of the Knights of St Peter and St Paul.

Some of us are very fortunate that we have met Bishop Barbara, when he celebrated Mass for us on Saturday, 24 June, 2017 in the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul in Nadur, Gozo, Malta.

Bishop Barbara will be always remembered in our hearts and in the history of the Confraternity.

Watch a video of the celebration in Malta by Chevalier Carmel Saliba. Click on the link: https://www.facebook.com/carmel.saliba/videos/10154999060561594/

Emanuel Barbara OFM Cap (27 October 1949 – 5 JanBishop uary 2018) was a Maltese bishop who served as the Bishop of Malindi in Kenya.

Bishop Barbara was born in Gzira Malta on 27 October 1949. He joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin and took his solemn profession on 26 September 1966.[1] In 1973 he was ordained to the diaconate and a year later on July 20 he was ordained as a priest. Until 2008 he served as a priest in the Diocese of Malindi. He also served as Provincial Minister of the Maltese Capuchin Province.[2] In 2011 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him bishop of Malindi in Kenya and on 1 October 2011 he was consecrated by Cardinal John Njue. Pope Leo X
Founder of the Order of St. Peter

Pope Leo X (11 December 1475 – 1 December 1521), born Giovanni di Lorenzo de' Medici, was Pope from 9 March 1513 to his death in 1521.[1] The second son of Lorenzo the Magnificent, ruler of the Florentine Republic, he was elevated to the cardinalate in 1489.

Following the death of Pope Julius II, Giovanni was elected pope after securing the backing of the younger members of the Sacred College. Early on in his rule he oversaw the closing sessions of the Fifth Council of the Lateran, but failed sufficiently to implement the reforms agreed. In 1517 he led a costly war that succeeded in securing his nephew as duke of Urbino, but which damaged the papal finances. He later only narrowly escaped a plot by some cardinals to poison him.

The Order of the Knights of St. Peter's was made up of 401 men chosen from among the best and most faithful collaborators of the Pope and of the Church.
The Order was given the task of managing the administrative affairs of the Apostolic Camera , and to ensure a body of knights to defend the safety of the person of the Pope and of the same hospitals , used on various sectors of necessity of war.
Pope Clement VII , born Giulio de 'Medici , the successor of Pope Leo X in 1522 , confirming this Order with a further Bull issued in October of 1526 , published at the Chancery of the Pontifical January 3, 1527 .

 Pope Paul III
Pope Paul III reaffirmed the Board of the Knights of St. Peter ( Papal Bull of 26 February 1534 , published in the Papal Chancellery on 20 December 1535 ) with the same forms , methods and content produced by Pope Leo X. He did , however, most , wanted to not duplicate such an order creating another mirror under the name of the College of the Knights of St. Paul, by a Bull of 25 June 1540 , which saw the publication in the Papal Chancellery July 19, 1541 .
This new Board was composed of 200 Knights. It was confirmed by Pope Julius III on March 21, 1549.
In this way, and for a long time the two Orders were completely equalized by Pope Paul III and was thus decided that the Knights could at the same time belong either to one or the other order . However, the two Orders were never merged, each maintaining its own identity. Being Knights of the aforesaid Orders also meant to be declared Diners and Family of the Pope and at the same time the Knights of the Golden Militia , as well as accounts of the House Lateran and therefore ascribed to the highest degree of Nobility Pontifical .
The two orders , which were , however, further confirmation in 1561 by Pope Pius IV in the late sixteenth century lost their vitality, at least from the perspective of the documentary, not so much for physiological reasons as to the exhaustion of their ancient mission.
In summary it is certain that when in 1520 Pope Leo X established the Board of the Knights of St. Peter's intended to create a College of trusted men , clergymen and not , at the same time they had the dual task of lifting the Apostolic Chamber administrative burdens, constitute a ' wide Assembly of expert Advisors , ready to provide its expertise to the discussions within the State .
Pope Paul III at the time of the creation of the College of the Knights of St. Paul, homologous to that of the Knights of St. Peter , he wanted to strengthen the provision of Pope Leo X but also introduce the new order with the appearance of Chivalry Army Military Company that lacked first , so that It could not contravene the papal command when they asked to be followed in both arms during the sessions of the Council is in any holy wars according to the needs of the moment.

It was a very successful event and everyone had a lovely time.
Thanks to all the sponsors and all the helpers. It was a very tiring weekend to all involved but it was worth it.

The Gospel today said:
Matthew 25:35-40
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.
And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’

Recently Puttinu Cares Gozo organised various fund raising activities such as the annual Fun Walk/Run and activities relating to Halloween.
We have been organizing the Fun Walk/Run for the past 7 years. This year it was organized on Sunday 15th October 2017; from the Gozo General Hospital to Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary and back. All participants were given a T-shirt against a donation towards Puttinu Cares.
The activities related to Halloween were organized for the first time.  Two bake sale activities were organized in this occasion. One was organized at the Arkadia Shopping Centre on Saturday, 28th October 2017 and the other was organized at Saint Peter and Saint Paul Square Nadur on Tuesday, 30th October. During the Arkadia activity pieces of a huge Halloween cake were offered to the public against a donation. Cupcakes and pieces of cakes with a Halloween theme were sold in the Nadur activity. The huge Halloween cake and the other cakes as well as the cupcakes involved in these two activities were gently donated by volunteers. A number of volunteers helped in these activities.
A lot of children and people attended for these activities. All activities were successful and a considerable sum of money was collected in aid of Puttinu Cares. Puttinu Cares helps children and adults that suffer from cancer to receive the required treatment in England.

Noble aims and understanding
a commitment to be fair
rules by which we are united,
inspiration, trust, we share.

Under the protection
of the Saints Peter and Paul,
Humble, honest, caring
yet in faith we’re walking tall.
Working to serve others
who are helpless and in need
Striving to be caring,
with God’s help we shall succeed.

Notwithstanding place and distance
we are reaching far and wide;
race or language are no hindrance
Christ will be our trusted guide.

Under the protection

Humble, honest, caring
yet in faith we’re walking tall.
Working to serve others
who are helpless and in need
Striving to be caring,
with God’s help we shall succeed.

Let us strive and be inspired
by our mutual Christian aims,
being loyal to ideals;

The Grand Chapter of Malta had it's meeting and Dinner at the Grand Hotel in Gozo on Thursday, 8 December, 2016.

The Chancellor Chevalier Eddie Vella commented, I am pleased to inform you that we had a successful meeting last Thursday 8th December at the Grand Hotel which was followed by dinner.

Minutes of the previous meeting were signed, and there were no matters arising out of minutes.

Item 3 was interesting in that:
1.  I updated our members of the banner, the medals and the dress code that  you and I agreed upon for the great occasion coming next June.
2.  I introduced Charles and Virginia Coleiro as our new Brother and Sister after  their having been introduced by Grand Chancellor Chevalier Joseph Coleiro, and recommended by me to the Supreme Council to be accepted and form part of the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter and St. Paul.  I informed members present that the Supreme Council had approved my request.
3.  Dennis Mifsud, our Gran Prior will be ordained sub deacan for the parish of the byzantine church in Valletta.  Dennis will then on the 14th January, 2017 will have his feast in the Basilica of Nadur. It is envisaged that in June 2017, he will be invested Deacon.
4.  I referred members to your news letter giving details of functions that are expected to take place next June. I distributed a copy of the list of our foreign nights and dames who will be coming to Malta.  I specifically requested all present to take note that on June 24th, we will be having our next meeting after which we will proceed to t the Basilica to hear mass being celebrated by Bishop Emanuel Barbara.

Item 4:    Fund raising.  I again expressed concern that other than the raffle for the hamper I obtain from Vini e Capricci and a donation of euro 10 each all members should be making an effort  to generate some funds.  I as usual will be capping up the amount considerably.  I intend to donate all the money I am paid by the Malta Football Association for serving as Matches Inspector.

Item 5:  Other Matters.  I showed our members the certificate that was presented to me by the Grand Chancellor Chev. Joe Coleiro on your good self in commemoration of his visit to Malta.

We than proceeded to dinner.

Many thanks to all those involved in the preparation and setting of the hall, preparation of the food, cooking, sponsors, donors, performers, etc.
It was a lot of hard works from many people but the end result is very satisfactory.
Thank all once again.

Dear Confreres and friends of the Confraternity,

Central Italy Earthquake Appeal

Bishop of Ascoli: 'Don't abandon us. We have nothing left'

These were the words of Bishop Giovanni D'Ercole of Ascoli Piceno.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE
Peter Paul Portelli: Grand Master of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul.

Dear friends, It has been written since the first knights were invested in the Confraternity of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul: The primary purpose of the Knights and Dames is to serve God and His people.
Now is the time to prove the Almighty Father who we really are.
Now more than ever we really need to prove who we really are, if we are knights of words or knights of Christ.
Now is the time to show how brave we are or we are just title collectors.
Now is the time to show what we are made of, if we are really good Christians.
The horrible earthquake that happened in central Italy on Wednesday was made by mother nature. I am pretty sure that God didn’t want this to happen.
If people don’t die from earthquakes, if people don’t suffer and die from sickness, if people don’t die??? This world would be perfect.
What will happen then.
Now is the time to help the people of central Italy in these terrible moments.
If we are truly brave knights of Christ, we should stand up and help.
Now is the time to serve God and his people.
The Grand Chapter of Melbourne is organizing a Luncheon on Sunday 25 September, to raise money for the Earthquake Appeal.
Only the knights of Melbourne can send their donations to the Chapter at my address.
Chevalier Eddy Abraham of Melbourne has donated $100 to the Appeal.

Please send the money direct to Bishop S.E. Mons. Giovanni D`Ercole on behalf of your chapter.

The keys represent St. Peter.
Jesus gave the keys of heaven to St. Peter, saying.
"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
The Roman sword represents St. Paul.
The sword is a  common attribute of Saint Paul ... The sword is a reminder of the means of his martyrdom – he was beheaded in Rome in 67 AD.
The black Maltese cross represents the knighthood.

In the coat of arms, the keys  represent St. Peter and the sword represent St. Paul. The upside down cross on top of the crown represent how St. Peter was crucified.
The crown represents St. Peter and St. Paul as the Princes of the Apostles.
The solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul is a liturgical feast in honour of the martyrdom in Rome of the apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul, which is observed on 29 June.

WHY A CONFRATERNITY NOT AN ORDER OF KNIGHTS
The name was changed from the Order to the Confraternity in 2010  in accordance with the normal practice of the Roman Catholic Church.

MESSAGE FOR THE FEAST OF STS . PETER AND PAUL
From Fr. Manuel Sunaz
Parish Priest of St. Peter Chanel, Deer Park. Melbourne.
Chaplain of the Knights of St. Peter & St. Paul
Grand Chapter of Melbourne.

Some Christian groups claim that Christianity is a religion of the book. According to them  it is only founded on the Bible- “Sola Scriptura”. But they forgot that Jesus did not write anything and certainly not a book. Instead he called the disciple and wrote in their hearts. Jesus later sent disciples to proclaim His good news and not a book for people to study. That is why we celebrate the feasts the apostles the feasts of saints who were people who live, love and care like Jesus.

Today we celebrate the martyrdom of Sts Peter and Paul two great Apostles of Jesus, two important pillars of the church. We in the confraternity carry the names of Sts Peter and Paul and as such we try to convey that we wish to emulate their passion for the mission. Through this confraternity we discern together the calling of Christ for us in our world today. Our commitment to the confraternity is not only a mtter of membership but one of discipleship. Like Peter and Paul we believe we are called to witness the values of the Gospel too in our world today, even if only in our small way. God bless you and Happy feast day to all.

Fraternally yours,
Fr Manuel Suñaz, CMF.
